Nature reserve

Expanded 2003 most of the Svartberget Nature Reserve in Hedkärra is ancient limestone. There are several limestone quarries and the ruins of a lime kiln. In the spring blue anemone (Hepatica nobilis), a baneberry (Actea spicata) and the longleaved wood violet (Viola mirabilis) lead a varied flora, including several species of fern.

The Jönsbacken Nature Reserve comprises 9.2 hectares (app. 22 acres) with high botanical value. To the south lies the Skrikbokärret bog, once used as a haying meadow. The most apparent species of the many is the rare lesser tussock sedge (Carex appropinquata). The multitude of small birds include the scarlet rosefinch, blackcap and long-tailed tit, all drawn to the reserve by the hardwood forest and the bog land.

The Jonhagen Nature Reserve formed as late as 1999. The terrrain stands like a forested hill in the open landscape of the Hedkärra valley. To the west by the Hedtjärn lake stands hardwoods in copses, while the south-eastern and western section includes linden trees, maples and much hazel. There are artefacts from medieval housing in the area.
