Four world leading companies
Today, trade and industry in Fagersta consists a range of skilled small businesses and four major export-oriented companies, all of which are world leaders in their fields of tungsten carbide, rock drilling tools and stainless steel products.

Generous recreation opportunities
If you are interested in team sports such as football, ice hockey and bandy you will find good facilities and sports associations in a town where major stars such as Thomas Sandström and Ulf Samuelsson began their careers. If you find golf a more pleasant sport then you are welcome to our nice golf course.
We have a state-of-the-art pistol and rifle range here and a sportscentre with bowling, volleyball, badminton, basketball, indoor hockey etc. In the same centre there is also in- and outdoor swimming pools and a well-equipped gym with instructors who will be glad to help you with training and rehabilitation.
If you enjoy outdoor activities there is horseriding and waterskiing in the summer and in the winter we can offer you facilities for downhill and cross-country skiing as well as skijumping.

An outdoor paradise
Abborrtjärn is a popular fishing lake, stocked with game fish. You will find footbridges, tracks, resting places and fireplaces all around the lake. The Barken lake´s fishery area extends across Barken’s 3000 hectares to small forest lakes of just a few hectares.
You can take a pleasure boat or paddle a canoe up Strömsholms Canal. You can also take a trip with the canal boat M/S Strömsholm.
A main walking path takes you through the wonderful scenery of Fagersta. In total, there are more than 500 km of paths, throughout the beautiful and varied countryside.
Just by the lake Eskiln you can camp at our three star camping ground. The camping ground has a bath with a water slide and a miniature golf course.

Rich history and culture
Fagersta has a rich history of iron and foundries. The UNESCO´s world heritage Engelsbergs Bruk was one of the most important iron foundries in the world and is a fine example of the kind of foundry that made Sweden one of the world’s biggest iron producers.
On Oljeön Island, in Ängelsberg just 15 km outside of Fagersta, you will find the world’s oldest preserved oil refinery, and at Västanfors Hembygdsgård you can see how people lived at the turn of the 19th century. A very popular Christmas program, about the celebrations of the mine owners and ironmasters, is arranged here. Several thousands of people return every year to enjoy the atmosphere of the Christmas exhibitions.

Another spot on the world map
But it is not only historically that Fagersta has earned a spot on the world map. As a present day cultural attraction Fagersta is the hometown of the world famous rock band The Hives!
